“I really wanted to lose weight, gain muscle and also confidence. I was at a point where I was unhappy with the way I looked, it was after a summer of binge eating and drinking and I had enough. When I got the flyer outside of the subway I thought this was my chance.

When I joined Brooklyn Health and Performance I didn’t know what to expect but I figured since it was so close to my apartment I had nothing to lose. I get nervous working out in front of others and I give up easily. I was lucky when I started it was just me and Elsie (BHP Bootcamp coach) and maybe one other member. The classes have grown a lot since then however everyone is beyond nice and supportive. I now feel motivated surrounded by others and their achievements rather than intimidated. Elsie is also amazing. She has such a great energy to her that made me feel more comfortable and at ease.

Since I started training at Brooklyn Health and Performance not only have I lost weight, I’ve gained confidence, motivation, determination and a love for working out and taking care of my body. I have never stuck to a gym or an exercise routine before in my life. My friends truly were shocked when I started coming so actively since it was so outside of my character. Now BHP is truly a part of my week. I am there 4 days a week and it’s not because I have to go it’s because I want to go. Also in the class I am proud of achieving simple strides like doing overhead weights with now 15 lbs when I started I could barely do 10 lbs. I’m able to squat lower, lift more weight, go faster and longer.

My overall experience at BHP has been nothing but absolutely amazing. I’ve done both semi private and boot camp, both of which I’ve enjoyed, but I’m a boot camp girl at heart. The staff is beyond, so knowledgeable and truly care about each individual that comes in. They understand your goals your strengths and weaknesses. It is a small community at BHP and I’ve not only gained work out buddies but friends outside of the gym as well. It’s honestly my favorite part of my day and has truly changed my life and the way I think about fitness.

Would I recommend BHP? A million percent. The individual attention you receive at BHP is outstanding. The coaches really learn about you and your goals and push you to succeed but not in a demanding way. Everyone is supportive and the culture of the gym in general is great among all members. If you feel self conscious working or feel like trainers never get to know you, BHP is definitely the place for you. But if you are already althetic they can also cater to a higher level of member and ensure they are pushed as well.

I’ve been a member of BHP for two years. I was excited to find a gym focused on personalized programming after disappointing experiences with box gyms. The motivated staff and effective programming have led me on a journey to realize increased strength and mobility. While the programming is individualized, the environment is very community oriented. Walking into the gym to train more often feels like visiting good friends and family and all the camaraderie that comes with challenging oneself with other people!

If you've ever hired a trainer, you know it's too expensive, both you and the trainer need to be available at the same time and there is no guarantee that the trainer will do what's best for you. Brooklyn Health and Performance just made hiring a trainer in an ordinary gym obsolete. They cut the cost nearly in half, their semi-private training model means there's always a coach there on my schedule, and with their leading edge program design and physical assessment system, my fitness goals and body's health are taken into account and incorporated into my personalized program. Corrective stretching that like voodoo resets me back to neutral, warm-ups that are specific for my workouts and exercises that act as the glue to finalize the resets. Do what I did and schedule an assessment, meet the knowledgeable and very friendly people there and actually enjoy exercising and eating properly.

They really understand and explain the science behind exercise. The individualized work out program is so well done - they do this after extensive assessment so you can feel the change just in a couple of months. I just went back home recently and I got so many nice comments on my body - and this is only after 3 months of working out without eating less! (I did eat more protein tho).

Awesome place -- you can work out here at any level, and they are totally supportive. I went in with a bad hip injury, and 3 months later, my pain is just about gone. Tommy is amazing -- knows all the right things to do to get my strength up around the torn muscle. I now have all these exercises to do that are just right for me, and that he has gradually made harder as I get better. Also, I get no bad vibes around being an older woman and fat and fit. It's a place for women, for men, for fat people or thin people. Supportive, challenging, and tailored to what you need.

If you're looking for a unique and individualized program, BH+P is an excellent option. Tommy is very thorough in his physical assessment. He takes the time to craft a program for you to counteract any physical imbalances or inefficiencies in the way you move. Bill, his brother and operations manager, is very welcoming and accommodating. Overall, the experience is not like your typical gym, aerobics program,etc so be prepared for something a little different. The individual attention and flexibility in scheduling you'll receive here is unmatched.

Great facility and even better staff! As a complete beginner to fitness, Bill at the front desk was super helpful—he patiently and methodically detailed a workout plan for me and demonstrated how to perform each exercise. He was knowledgable, thorough, and friendly. Definitely a great place to pursue your fitness goals!

This place is awesome, Bill and Tom are the best. I had no direction before I started, but now I'm getting stronger, looking better and feeling better. I've had no injuries because they focus on form and not maxing out or working you at pace your not comfortable with. These dudes actually cater to each client's needs.

Custom programs every month, unlimited open gym time is a fantastic deal. And it is not crowded (when I go) so please don't tell anyone else?!

Training with Tommy and the Coaches at BHP has made such a difference in my life. I walked in with a knee brace that I needed to even do a simple squat or lift without collapsing in pain. After a couple sessions, I haven't needed it all. Each program targets the areas that would otherwise keep me from exercising because of old injuries; almost like physical therapy. I have never been a fitness-type person, but the motivation I get from feeling healthy and strong keeps me coming back. Just wish they were open 24 hours!

Everyone gets an individualized program based on that assessment. Then that program gets adjusted and readjusted as you go along. And you are coached so you are doing everything correctly.

I went to Bill and Tom at Brooklyn Health and Performance with my rugby team to prepare for the season. I have never felt fitter. My strength, agility, and speed are markedly improved, and my endurance throughout the game--especially in the last grueling minutes--has increased. Better yet, I have been remarkably injury free over the course of a long season; I feel as fresh now at the end as I did in week one. We'll be heading to the playoffs in the spring, and I attribute that in no small part to the excellent work of the trainers at Brooklyn Health and Performance.
