“I really wanted to lose weight, gain muscle and also confidence. I was at a point where I was unhappy with the way I looked, it was after a summer of binge eating and drinking and I had enough. When I got the flyer outside of the subway I thought this was my chance.
When I joined Brooklyn Health and Performance I didn’t know what to expect but I figured since it was so close to my apartment I had nothing to lose. I get nervous working out in front of others and I give up easily. I was lucky when I started it was just me and Elsie (BHP Bootcamp coach) and maybe one other member. The classes have grown a lot since then however everyone is beyond nice and supportive. I now feel motivated surrounded by others and their achievements rather than intimidated. Elsie is also amazing. She has such a great energy to her that made me feel more comfortable and at ease.
Since I started training at Brooklyn Health and Performance not only have I lost weight, I’ve gained confidence, motivation, determination and a love for working out and taking care of my body. I have never stuck to a gym or an exercise routine before in my life. My friends truly were shocked when I started coming so actively since it was so outside of my character. Now BHP is truly a part of my week. I am there 4 days a week and it’s not because I have to go it’s because I want to go. Also in the class I am proud of achieving simple strides like doing overhead weights with now 15 lbs when I started I could barely do 10 lbs. I’m able to squat lower, lift more weight, go faster and longer.
My overall experience at BHP has been nothing but absolutely amazing. I’ve done both semi private and boot camp, both of which I’ve enjoyed, but I’m a boot camp girl at heart. The staff is beyond, so knowledgeable and truly care about each individual that comes in. They understand your goals your strengths and weaknesses. It is a small community at BHP and I’ve not only gained work out buddies but friends outside of the gym as well. It’s honestly my favorite part of my day and has truly changed my life and the way I think about fitness.
Would I recommend BHP? A million percent. The individual attention you receive at BHP is outstanding. The coaches really learn about you and your goals and push you to succeed but not in a demanding way. Everyone is supportive and the culture of the gym in general is great among all members. If you feel self conscious working or feel like trainers never get to know you, BHP is definitely the place for you. But if you are already althetic they can also cater to a higher level of member and ensure they are pushed as well.

I’ve been a member of BHP for two years. I was excited to find a gym focused on personalized programming after disappointing experiences with box gyms. The motivated staff and effective programming have led me on a journey to realize increased strength and mobility. While the programming is individualized, the environment is very community oriented. Walking into the gym to train more often feels like visiting good friends and family and all the camaraderie that comes with challenging oneself with other people!
